GTA III becomes a playable TV game inside GTA: San Andreas

GTA modder Dryxio has demonstrated GTA III running on a television inside GTA: San Andreas. The video shows CJ standing in front of the screen while GTA III remains fully playable.

This is not a recording or a captured window mapped onto the television. According to Dryxio, GTA III runs inside the GTA: San Andreas process, with both games sharing the same Direct3D device. GTA III renders directly into the television’s live GPU texture.

The player can switch between controlling CJ in San Andreas and Claude in GTA III. The San Andreas world remains active while GTA III is running on the screen, rather than pausing or replacing the main game with a full-screen interface.

The demonstration builds on Dryxio’s earlier mod that ports GTA III and GTA: Vice City into GTA: San Andreas. That version was released in February 2026 and runs each game as an independent engine inside the San Andreas process, with separate story progress, saves, settings and gameplay.

The public package does not include files from GTA III or GTA: Vice City. Players must own both games and provide the required assets.

Dryxio has since taken the experiment another step further. A second demonstration shows GTA: Vice City running on a texture inside GTA III, which is itself running on a television inside GTA: San Andreas.
